This Week At The Capitol

The Missouri House of Representatives reconvened in Jefferson City this week to consider the legislation advanced by the Senate during the first special session called by Governor Kehoe. Three key bills were reviewed in committee hearings Tuesday before being brought to the House floor for debate on Wednesday. Each of the measures received bipartisan support and ultimately passed.

  • SB 1, which covers some capital projects from HB 2019, passed 143-2.
  • SB 3, which passed 90-58, establishes the Show-Me Sports Investment Act to help retain the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, extends the Missouri Amateur Sports Tax Credit to August 28, 2032, and includes tax credits for 2025 homestead damage. It also contained an amendment related to property tax caps.
  • SB 4, focused on disaster relief, passed 147-2. It includes an emergency clause, meaning it will take effect immediately upon the Governor’s signature.

We are grateful that the Missouri Amateur Sports Tax Credit Program was included in Governor Kehoe’s call for a special session. As previously noted, this tax credit plays a vital role in attracting numerous sports tournaments to the Branson/Lakes area, providing a significant boost to our local economy. We extend our sincere thanks to Senator Hudson, Representative Seitz, and Representative Overcast for their continued support.

The property tax amendment added to SB 3 by Senator Nicola (Dist. 11, Kansas City) has raised concerns across the state. During a press conference yesterday, Speaker of the House Jon Patterson announced that he would speak with Governor Kehoe about the possibility of calling another special session to run concurrently with the veto session in September, in order to address the issue.
